WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM FEATURES

The newest Windows operating system, Windows 7, has new features that can make users' lives easier. This operating system review looks at fun new additions.

Windows 7 is basically a much more user-friendly and popular revamp of the mostly unloved Windows Vista computer operating system. Mike Williams of TechRadar.com gave the newest Windows operating system (OS) a 4.5/5, with Vista and XP receiving ratings of 3/5 and 3.5/5, respectively. In other words, according to his operating system review, it is a step up from old Microsoft Windows operating systems. Even if users prefer the familiarity of other MS operating systems, they will miss out on the fun features that Windows 7 has to offer.

New Version of Paint on the Newest Windows Operating System

The new version of Paint that comes with the new computer operating system is similar to the old version of Paint, with new and interesting features. Artistically inclined people will likely enjoy the new features, as the program allows users to personalize their paint style more than previously possible, and some of the older features are easier to use.

When users open Paint, they can select from several brush styles. While there were very limited options in the old version of paint, this version incorporates different art mediums. Paint artists can choose from oil, watercolor, or regular brushes. Also, spray paint and pencil are still available, with the new additions of calligraphy pens, markers, and crayons. All of the different mediums create different styles, and artists can combine them for fun pieces of art.
Another update to Paint makes it easier to choose new colors. While Paint artists could always customize colors, these customized colors used to replace the basic colors that came with the program. With the new version, customized colors can be placed beneath the basic colors instead of replacing them.

Those who enjoy the features of Microsoft Office 2007 will likely enjoy the new version of Paint. Like Office 2007, the new Paint comes with different sections that correspond to the features of paint. For instance, all options related to colors are in the "Colors" section, and all options related to tools are in the "Tools" section. This can be more intuitive for many users.
Changes to Opened Windows with Windows 7

Many people like opening many windows (the boxes that pop up whenever a program is opened) at once, and the newest of the MS operating systems caters to such people. There are several ways to manage opened windows; some of these may be confusing at first, but simply learn how to use the new features and organizing windows will be a snap.

One cool new feature (that was annoying at first, but easy to get used to) is the ease of maximizing windows on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Simply drag a window to the top of the screen to maximize it. This makes it easier to deal with many opened windows, as people do not need to find the tiny "maximize" button in the window's right hand corner. Also, it keeps users from accidentally closing windows, which can happen if they accidentally click the "close" button that is right next to the "maximize" button.

Also, the task bar at the bottom of the screen makes it much easier to organize windows. Simply right click on an empty space on the task bar and a list of options will pop up. The user can select "cascade windows" to stack the windows in front of each other, "show windows stacked" to stack windows on top of each other horizontally, or "show windows side by side" to stack windows next to each other so that all are visible. Also, "show the desktop" makes it easy to see the desktop without having to rearrange the windows or close them altogether.

Operating System Review: Other Fun Features of the New Windows Operating System

According to Mike Williams, the newest Windows operating system has a much faster rebooting time than Vista. And this is good news for probably just about every computer user, since rebooting simply takes time away from the computing experience.

The task bars on the newest Windows computer operating system have been revamped. People using Windows operating systems can drag their favorite programs to the task bars; the program buttons will indicate whether the programs are open or not. Open programs are outlined by a highlighted square, and programs with multiple windows opened show this fact by stacking highlighted squares on top of one another. Difficult to imagine? Try out a computer with the new Windows operating system to see.

Screen savers and wallpaper options are also revamped and can be fun for users. Users can choose "themes," and new wallpaper pictures will appear every few hours. Also, new screen savers for Windows operating systems include "bubbles," which is a cute new addition to the screen saver options.

While it may not be worth it to pay for the new Windows operating system just for these features, they are fun new additions to MS operating systems. This operating system review does not go into more advanced uses of the newest OS, but for average users these new features on Microsoft Windows operating systems can be fun and exciting.
